Gearbox Replacement & Cross-Reference

Replace a Discontinued or Obsolete Gearbox

When a gearbox or speed reducer is discontinued, unbranded, or you only have the old one in hand, an independent distributor can still find you a fit. Send a photo of the nameplate and Jealco cross-references a current equivalent by ratio, torque, mounting and shafts — and exports it if you need it shipped.

Any make

Independent, not tied to one catalog — we cross-reference across brands.

Obsolete is our specialty

Discontinued models matched to a current equivalent.

Identified from the nameplate

A photo tells us the ratio, torque and frame we need to match.

Exporting since 1950

Sourcing and export handled together, worldwide.

Start here: what do you have?

Whatever you can give us, we can usually work from. The more of it, the faster and tighter the cross-reference.

Your situation Send us What we do
You have the old gearbox, nameplate readable A clear nameplate photo + the mounting and shaft details Identify the exact unit and cross-reference a current equivalent
Nameplate missing or unreadable Photos of the unit, overall and shaft dimensions, and how it mounts Identify the type and size and match it by specification
Model is discontinued The old model number, even if superseded Cross-reference to a current model, same brand or another make
It is a gearmotor (reducer + motor) Nameplates for both, or the combined gearmotor nameplate Match the assembly by ratio, output torque, motor HP and frame
You are specifying a new reducer Input speed, output speed or ratio, output torque or HP, mounting Size it and quote a suitable reducer for the application

What the nameplate tells us

These are the fields that let us match a replacement precisely. You do not need all of them — send what you can read.

Ratio or speeds

The reduction ratio, or the input and output RPM.

Torque or horsepower

Output torque, or the motor HP the reducer is rated for.

Gearbox type

Worm, helical, helical-bevel, shaft-mount, cycloidal or planetary.

Mounting

Base (foot), C-face (NEMA or IEC), or shaft-mount.

Shaft sizes

Input and output shaft diameters, and hollow vs. solid.

Brand & model

The maker and model or catalog number, even if discontinued.

Not sure of the service factor? Tell us the application — the load type, hours per day, starts per hour, and the environment (washdown, dust, heat). We size the replacement to the job, not just to the old box. Our gearbox ratio calculator can help you confirm ratio and output speed.

Gearbox types we replace

Worm gear reducers

Right-angle, hollow- or solid-shaft, single and double reduction.

Helical & helical-bevel

Inline helical and right-angle helical-bevel reducers.

Shaft-mount reducers

Screw-conveyor and bulk-handling shaft-mount drives.

Cycloidal

High-ratio, high-shock cycloidal speed reducers.

Planetary

Compact, high-torque planetary reducers.

Gearmotors

Reducer-and-motor assemblies matched as a unit.

Brands we cross-reference

As an independent distributor we cross-reference across makes, including Dodge (Tigear and Quantis), Grove Gear, Winsmith and SEW, and worm, helical, shaft-mount, cycloidal and planetary reducers from other manufacturers. When a model is obsolete, we find the closest current equivalent — from the same maker where one exists, or another make when that is the better fit.

Why independent helps here. A single-brand distributor can only sell you their own catalog. Because we are not tied to one, we can tell you when the original is still available, when a different make is the right replacement, and what the trade-offs are — so you get a reducer that fits the job, not just the nearest thing in one book.

Gearbox replacement FAQ

Can you replace a discontinued or obsolete gearbox?

Usually, yes. As an independent distributor we cross-reference across manufacturers, so even when the original model is discontinued we can identify a current equivalent that matches the ratio, torque, mounting and shafts. Send a nameplate photo and the mounting details and we will find the replacement.

What information do you need to cross-reference a gearbox?

A photo of the nameplate is the most important thing. Beyond that: the reduction ratio or input and output speed, the horsepower or output torque, the gearbox type (worm, helical, helical-bevel, shaft-mount, cycloidal or planetary), the mounting (base, C-face or shaft-mount) and the input and output shaft sizes. The application load, speed and environment help confirm the service factor.

Can you cross-reference between different gearbox brands?

Yes. Because we are an independent distributor and not tied to one catalog, we can match a discontinued unit from one manufacturer to a current equivalent from another when that is the best available fit. We confirm the ratio, torque rating, mounting and shafts so the replacement fits the job.

Can you replace a gearmotor, not just a gearbox?

Yes. Send the nameplate for both the reducer and the motor, or the combined gearmotor nameplate, and we cross-reference the assembly by ratio, output torque, motor horsepower and frame, and mounting.

Send the nameplate, we will find the replacement

A clear photo of the nameplate and how the gearbox mounts is enough to start. We will confirm the cross-reference, the price and the lead time — and handle export if you need it shipped.
