What PVC belting is
How it is built
A PVC belt has a PVC cover on an interwoven polyester carcass: the fabric is woven as one layer rather than built up from separate plies bonded with rubber. That is why every PVC belt in our store shows 1 ply, whatever its rating. Rubber belts, by contrast, add plies to add strength. See heavy duty and light duty belting.
Top and bottom
The top is usually a smooth PVC cover, or a textured incline pattern. The underside comes three ways: a second PVC cover ( C X C
), a friction surface ( X FS
), or brushed fabric ( X BRUSHED
) that slides easily on a slider bed.
How PIW works
PIW is pounds per inch of width: the working tension one inch of belt width is rated to carry. On PVC belts it is the number in the name: PVC 200
is rated 200 PIW. A 200 PIW belt 24" wide is rated for about 4,800 lb of working tension. See What is PIW?

How to read a PVC belt name
A belt's name is its spec in shorthand. Here is one taken apart.
- PVC 200: PVC belt rated 200 lb per inch of width.
- BLACK: the cover color.
- C X C: PVC cover on top and underneath.
- SC/FR: static conductive and flame resistant.

What does "solid woven" PVC mean?
The carcass is interwoven polyester: woven as one layer rather than built from separate fabric plies bonded with rubber. A PVC cover goes on top and, on many belts, underneath. That is why our PVC belts all show 1 ply, from 100 to 750 PIW.
PVC or rubber: which do I need?
PVC belts are tough and easy to clean, and suit packages, food and grain and feed. Choose rubber when the material is hot (our PVC belts are rated 0 °F to 180 °F), when lumps drop onto the belt, or when the material is sharp or abrasive. See heavy duty belting.
What is the difference between a PVC, friction or brushed back?
The back is the side that runs on the bed and pulleys. A brushed back slides easily over a slider bed. A friction surface gives more grip on the pulleys. A PVC back ( C X C
) gives a covered, easy-to-clean surface on both faces.
Which PVC belts are FDA approved?
Our white PVC belts, from 100 to 450 PIW, in smooth, roughtop, chevron and crescent tops. The 200 and 450 PIW FDA belts are also flame resistant and static conductive. If your line is also USDA-inspected, confirm the belt meets the rules for your product.
Do you have flame-resistant, static-conductive PVC?
Yes. Black PVC belts from 200 to 750 PIW, plus the 200 and 450 PIW white FDA belts. Several black PVC belts at 120 to 200 PIW are flame resistant without being static conductive. Check the requirements that apply to your site before you order.
Do you have PVC belting for inclines?
Yes: roughtop, chevron and crescent-pattern tops from 100 to 200 PIW, in black, green and red, plus white FDA versions. See our incline belts and the incline guide.
Can you cut a belt to length and make it endless?
Yes. Every belt is cut to the width and length you order. We can also install mechanical lacing, splice it endless (vulcanized or glued), and add cleats, sidewalls or V-guides. Finishing is quoted to order; tell us your application requirements.
Do you stock ready-to-ship PVC belt?
Yes. Our PVC 120 brushed-back belt and PVC 200 flame-resistant, static-conductive belt are stocked as 24" and 36" wide x 100 ft rolls in our quick ship category.
